Terms of Service

Effective: 6 October 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of OptiCord, including the OptiCord application, beta and prerelease builds, updates, support and feedback channels, related websites, and any associated services we provide (together, the “Services”).

OptiCord is published by OptiTools Architecture, proprietor Lukkas von Kleist, Viktoriastraße 2, 80803 München-Schwabing-Freimann, Germany (“OptiTools”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Contact: info@optitools.org.

By downloading, installing, accessing or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use OptiCord.

1. Eligibility

You may use OptiCord only if you are old enough to use Discord in your country and otherwise permitted to use Discord under Discord’s rules. Discord currently requires users to be at least 13 and applies higher minimum ages in some countries.

If you have not reached the age at which you can enter into these Terms on your own, a parent or legal guardian must agree to them on your behalf.

If you use OptiCord for an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to accept these Terms for that organisation.

2. Independent project; no affiliation with Discord

OptiCord is an independent third-party client. It is not affiliated with, authorised by, sponsored by, approved by or endorsed by Discord Inc. or any Discord affiliate.

Discord is a separate third-party service. Discord names, trademarks, logos and other assets remain the property of their respective owners.

Your use of Discord remains subject to Discord’s own terms, policies, safety rules and account restrictions. These Terms do not replace or modify your agreement with Discord.

You must not use OptiCord to bypass a Discord warning, suspension, ban, age restriction, privacy or safety control, rate limit, or other enforcement measure.

Discord can change its services, APIs, authentication systems, media systems, policies or technical interfaces at any time. Those changes may impair or prevent OptiCord from working. We are not responsible for Discord’s decisions or enforcement actions.

3. Licence to use OptiCord

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to install and use the proprietary parts of OptiCord for lawful purposes on the Mac on which your licence is activated. One purchase covers one Mac (section 16). The licence has no expiry date and ends only as described in section 13.

This licence does not transfer ownership of OptiCord, its source code, design, branding, documentation or other intellectual property.

Components distributed under an open-source licence are governed by that licence. If an open-source licence gives you rights that conflict with these Terms, the open-source licence controls for that component.

4. Proprietary software and technical protections

Except where mandatory law or an applicable open-source licence expressly allows it, you must not copy, sell, sublicense, redistribute or publish proprietary OptiCord builds or private prerelease builds; share or resell licences or activation links; remove ownership notices; circumvent licence, access, signing or security controls; extract or misuse non-public credentials, signing material or secrets; or present a modified build as an official OptiCord release.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be restricted, including rights that may exist under German or EU law for interoperability, security research or lawful analysis.

5. Acceptable use

Use OptiCord lawfully and responsibly. You must not use the Services to:

  • violate law, a court order, or another person’s rights;
  • violate Discord’s terms, policies or safety rules;
  • operate self-bots, spam tools, raid tools, credential stealers, token loggers or unauthorised automation;
  • access another person’s account, device, communications or data without permission;
  • collect, expose, sell or misuse passwords, authentication tokens, personal data or private communications;
  • phish, defraud, impersonate, harass, threaten or exploit another person;
  • distribute malware, spyware or malicious code;
  • circumvent rate limits, security controls, age restrictions, moderation controls or enforcement measures;
  • interfere with the availability, integrity or security of OptiCord, Discord or another system;
  • scrape, archive or commercially exploit data without the permission required by law or the relevant service terms; or
  • help another person do any of the above.

6. Accounts, credentials and device security

You are responsible for securing your Mac, your Discord account, your email account, and any credentials or session information stored on your device.

Do not share authentication tokens, recovery material, activation links or private beta access with people who are not authorised to use them.

If you believe your account, device or OptiCord session has been compromised, secure the affected account through the relevant provider and contact us if OptiCord-specific action is needed.

7. Beta and prerelease software

OptiCord may be distributed as alpha, beta, experimental, private or prerelease software. Prerelease software can contain bugs, unfinished features, compatibility problems or security defects, and features may change or disappear before release.

Back up important data before testing prerelease builds. Do not rely on a beta build for emergency, medical, safety-critical, financial or other high-risk use.

Private builds are provided only to authorised testers. Unless we say otherwise in writing, you may not redistribute, sell, mirror or publicly post a private build or its private download link.

8. Updates, availability and compatibility

OptiCord checks for updates automatically and offers them in the app. We may require a newer build for continued use where an older build is incompatible, insecure or no longer supported.

We may add, change, remove, suspend or discontinue features. We do not promise a particular release date, roadmap item, feature, integration or period of availability.

We do not guarantee compatibility with every Mac, macOS version, Discord change, server configuration or third-party modification. OptiCord requires a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or later.

9. Discord content and local data

Content you access through Discord remains subject to Discord’s systems and policies. Neither OptiCord nor we obtain ownership of your Discord messages, attachments, servers, channels, voice communications or other Discord content merely because the app displays or handles them on your device.

OptiCord may store settings, caches, session information, application state and logs locally on your Mac. You are responsible for your local files, backups and device security.

How we handle personal data is explained in the Privacy Policy.

10. Feedback

If you voluntarily send us a bug report, suggestion, feature request or other feedback, you allow us to use that feedback to develop, improve, document and support OptiCord without owing you compensation.

You keep ownership of unrelated material you include with a report. Personal data included in support or feedback submissions is handled under the Privacy Policy.

11. Intellectual property and branding

We and our licensors retain the rights we hold in the proprietary software, documentation, artwork, interface designs, names and branding.

You may not use the OptiCord or OptiTools name, logo or confusingly similar branding to impersonate us, suggest an endorsement or affiliation that does not exist, or distribute an unauthorised build as official software.

12. Third-party services

OptiCord depends on third-party services, especially Discord. Some features use other providers, for example GIPHY for GIF search and Pinterest for image search. Those services are operated independently and may change, restrict or discontinue access without notice from us.

Where OptiCord links to, displays or interacts with another provider, your use of that provider remains subject to its own terms and privacy policy. We do not control its independent security, availability or moderation decisions.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using OptiCord at any time.

We may deactivate a licence or end access to an OptiTools-operated service or private beta where we reasonably believe that you materially breached these Terms, compromised security, abused access, shared or resold a licence or activation link, redistributed a private build without permission, where the payment for the licence was refunded or reversed, or where action is needed to comply with law or protect users or systems.

Ending access does not affect provisions that by their nature should continue, including ownership, licence restrictions, liability, feedback rights and dispute provisions.

14. Warranty

Your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected.

Subject to those rights, OptiCord is provided as described and may contain faults. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, compatible with every Discord change or suitable for a purpose that we have not expressly described.

Where the German rules for digital products in §§ 327 ff. BGB apply, those statutory rights apply in full.

15. Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and where liability cannot legally be limited.

For slight negligence, we are liable only where we breach an obligation essential to the contract and only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of contract. Liability under the German Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses caused by Discord outages, Discord enforcement or policy changes, unsupported third-party modifications, your failure to secure your device or credentials, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

16. Purchase, activation and right of withdrawal

OptiCord is sold as a one-time purchase on www.optitools.org/opticord. The price is shown in euro before you pay and includes VAT where it applies. You pay through PayPal, and the contract comes into being when PayPal confirms the payment.

After payment, the purchase page gives you the download and a one-time activation link. Opening the link on your Mac activates OptiCord on that Mac and creates its licence. One purchase activates one Mac: the same link keeps working on that Mac, for example after a reinstall, and is refused on any other Mac.

OptiCord confirms its licence online each time it starts. If it cannot reach our licence service, it asks you to try again once you are online.

As a consumer in the EU you have 14 days from the purchase to withdraw from the contract without giving a reason. Write to info@optitools.org within that period and we will refund you in full; the licence is then deactivated. Nothing in these Terms removes consumer rights that apply to a digital purchase.

17. Governing law and disputes

German law applies. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not remove any mandatory protection you have under the law of your country of residence.

We are neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board, unless a legal obligation to do so applies.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the Services, law, security requirements or our operations change. The current version will state its effective date.

Where a change materially affects an existing purchase or another continuing contractual relationship, we will give notice where the law or the applicable contract requires it. We will not retroactively turn conduct that was lawful under an earlier version into a breach.

19. General

If part of these Terms is invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

A failure to enforce a provision once does not waive the right to enforce it later.

These Terms, the Privacy Policy and any applicable open-source licences form the agreement governing the relevant Services.

20. Contact

Questions, legal notices and reports about OptiCord may be sent to info@optitools.org. The complete operator details are set out in the Legal Notice / Impressum below.

Privacy Policy

Effective: 6 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data in connection with the OptiCord application, its licence and update services, the beta programme, the OptiCord website pages, and support and feedback channels.

The controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR is OptiTools Architecture, proprietor Lukkas von Kleist, Viktoriastraße 2, 80803 München-Schwabing-Freimann, Germany. Email: info@optitools.org.

1. The basic design

OptiCord is a Discord client. Your Discord activity, including messages, media, voice and video, travels directly between your Mac and Discord. OptiCord has no message or media relay of its own.

We do not claim ownership of your Discord conversations or media. Discord independently processes your account data and content under Discord’s own terms and privacy policy.

2. Information stored on your Mac

The application stores information locally to function, including settings and preferences, cached Discord content, local session or account state, feature configuration, application state and diagnostic logs. Your Discord sign-in token and your OptiCord licence key are kept in your Mac’s Keychain.

Local data remains on your device unless a feature described in this policy sends it elsewhere or you choose to submit it, for example in a feedback or support report.

Deleting the application may not automatically remove every cache, preference file, log, backup or macOS record. You remain responsible for data stored on your own device and backups.

3. Discord credentials and content

OptiCord needs authentication material on your device to communicate with Discord. Your Discord sign-in token is sent only to Discord. It is never sent to OptiTools. Do not send your Discord password or raw authentication token to OptiCord support.

OptiCord does not send the contents of your Discord messages, attachments, voice or video communications to OptiTools. We only receive such material if you deliberately include it in a support or feedback message.

4. Licence activation and checks

When you open an activation link, and each time OptiCord starts on a licensed Mac, the app sends your activation code or licence key and a device identifier to our licence service at www.optitools.org. The device identifier is a one-way hash derived from your Mac’s hardware identifier; it is not the hardware identifier itself and does not contain your name.

Our licence service stores the activation code, the licence key, a hash of the device identifier and the time of activation. We use this to bind one licence to one Mac, to confirm the licence at launch, to restore it after a reinstall on the same Mac and to deactivate it after a refund. Beta builds use a one-time invite code in the same way. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

5. Purchases

Payments run through PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A. We never see or store your card or bank details. PayPal processes the payment under its own privacy policy and gives us the transaction confirmation, which includes your name, your email address and what you bought.

Our licence service stores the PayPal order and transaction IDs, the amount and the time of purchase together with the activation code, so we can deliver your licence, help you if you lose your activation link and handle refunds. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for the contract and Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR for legal retention duties.

6. Updates

OptiCord checks for updates automatically, about once an hour, by requesting the update feed from www.optitools.org, and downloads an update from our update storage when you install one. These requests include standard request data such as your IP address and the app’s name and version. OptiCord does not send a system profile with update checks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in delivering security and compatibility updates.

7. Website data

The OptiCord pages, the licence service and the update storage are hosted by Vercel Inc. Like other web hosts, Vercel receives standard request information needed to serve and protect the site, such as IP address, requested page, time of request, referring page and browser information.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookies and does not follow visitors across other websites. Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, operated by Google Ireland Limited, which transmits your IP address to Google.

The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in operating a stable, secure and readable website. Details are in the OptiTools Privacy Policy.

8. Support and feedback

If you contact us, report a bug or send feedback, we receive the information you choose to provide. This may include your email address, message, screenshots, attachments, crash information or diagnostic logs.

Only include information needed to explain the problem. Do not send passwords, raw Discord authentication tokens, unrelated personal data or private conversations unless they are genuinely necessary and you have the right to share them.

We use support and feedback information to answer you, diagnose problems, improve OptiCord, investigate abuse and keep records where legally required. Depending on the request, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

9. No analytics, tracking or automatic crash reports

OptiCord contains no advertising trackers and no analytics. It does not send crash reports or diagnostics automatically: they stay on your Mac, where you can see them in OptiCord’s settings, unless you send them to us yourself.

If a future version adds a service of this kind, this policy will be updated before that version is released and will name the provider, the data, the purpose, the legal basis and the retention period.

10. Services used by app features

Some features contact other providers directly from your Mac when you use them. Those providers process the data under their own terms and privacy policies:

  • GIF search sends your search terms to GIPHY, and the Pinterest picker sends your search terms to Pinterest. Both receive your IP address.
  • When Discord asks for a captcha during sign-in, OptiCord shows hCaptcha, operated by Intuition Machines, Inc.
  • Link previews and embeds may load images or players directly from their providers, for example YouTube, Twitch or Spotify.
  • Message translation runs on your Mac with Apple’s on-device translation. Live captions use Apple’s speech recognition on your Mac; call audio is sent to Apple only if you turn on Apple’s server-based recognition.
  • If you choose “Translate in Browser”, the message text opens in Google Translate in your web browser.
  • Optional plugins, which are off by default, may connect to the service they are built for. Their settings show which service that is.

11. How we use information

Where we receive personal data, we may use it to provide and secure OptiCord; deliver, confirm and deactivate licences; process purchases and refunds; respond to support and feedback; diagnose bugs, crashes and performance problems; prevent fraud or abuse; administer beta access; send important service or security notices; comply with legal obligations; and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use private Discord message content for advertising or to train a general-purpose AI model.

12. When information may be shared

We may share limited information with hosting, infrastructure, payment or security providers where needed to operate the Services; with professional advisers where necessary; where required by law or lawful legal process; where needed to investigate fraud, abuse or a security incident; or in connection with a lawful reorganisation or transfer of the business.

Third-party providers process data under their own legal obligations and, where applicable, contractual arrangements with us. Some providers may process data outside Germany or the European Economic Area, in which case the legally required transfer safeguards apply.

13. Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, and longer only where a legal retention duty or legitimate legal need applies. Licence records are kept for as long as the licence exists.

Purchase and invoice records may need to be retained for up to 10 years under German tax and commercial law (§ 147 AO, § 257 HGB), and qualifying business correspondence for up to 6 years.

Support or feedback material that is not subject to a legal retention duty is deleted or de-identified when it is no longer reasonably needed.

14. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information we control. No software, device or network is completely secure, so we cannot promise that loss, malware, compromise or unauthorised access will never occur.

You are responsible for securing your Mac, Discord account, email account and credentials.

15. Your rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may have rights to access your personal data (Art. 15), correct it (Art. 16), erase it (Art. 17), restrict processing (Art. 18), receive portable data where applicable (Art. 20), and object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). You may also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise a right, email info@optitools.org. We may need enough information to verify that the request relates to you.

You may complain to a data-protection supervisory authority. Ours is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 27, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

16. Children

OptiCord is not intended for anyone who is below the minimum age required to use Discord in their country. We do not knowingly seek personal data from a person who is not permitted to use Discord.

If we learn that we hold personal data that should not have been collected, we will take appropriate steps to delete it where required.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when OptiCord, our providers, the law or our data practices change. The current version will always show its effective date.

Where a material change requires notice or consent under applicable law, we will provide it.

18. Contact

Privacy requests and questions may be sent to info@optitools.org. The complete controller details are stated at the beginning of this policy and in the Legal Notice / Impressum.
